September 2010

The dirt work on the West side of the structure is approximately 99% complete and is currently in the settling process.  The old bridge has been completely removed.  Island Road is now closed to construct the East side approach to the new bridge.  We anticipate paving operations in October.  Thank you for your patience.

August 2010

The dirt work on the West side of the structure is approximately 50% complete.  The roadway, using the new bridge, is expected to reopen by November 2010.

June, 2010

The deck has been poured and is currently curing.  The existing bridge will be permanently closed July 6, 2010.  The roadway, using the new bridge, is expected to reopen by November 2010.

The concrete deck will be poured by the end of June.  The concrete deck will be 8.5 inches thick.  We are also planning to close the existing bridge (Commercial Point Road) early July (but after the 4th of July) to start the dirt work on the West side of the bridge.  Commercial Point Road will be closed for up to 135 days.

May, 2010

Crews began working on the new bridge this week.  Check back soon for road closure information.

Construction is on hold until the weather breaks.  Below are photos donated by Gary and Linda Thompson and Bob Good (THANKS!) of the original covered "Red Bridge" and a picture of the crew who built the existing bridge.

December 30, 2009 -

All 20 concrete I-Beams have been installed and Commercial Point Road and Island Road will now remain open until approximately May of 2010.  Thank you for your patience with the recent closures.

This project consists of the replacement of the structurally deficient through truss bridge which carries Commercial Point Road (C-004) over the Scioto River. The existing 3 span bridge will be removed and replaced with a 5 span reinforced concrete deck with concrete I-Beams, piers, and abutments. The new bridge will be on a modified alignment, approximately 100 feet downstream of the existing structure. The project also involves the reconstruction of 0.32 mile of Commercial Point Road .

The bridge replacement project began this summer (2009) and is scheduled to be complete next summer (2010).  Traffic will be maintained on Commercial Point Road until Spring 2010.  Commercial Point Road will then be closed (Spring/Summer 2010) for no longer than 135 days to construct the roadway west of the proposed bridge.

Island Road (C-004) will also be closed for up to 21 days to construct the roadway east of the proposed bridge (Spring/Summer 2010).
